Our Faith In Action

Every day, in a million ways, members of CTK and the ELCA are making the world a better place. In far reaches of the globe, and right here in our neighborhood, you’ll see that Lutherans aren’t folks who simply talk about their beliefs. We put them into action. So make a meal to share. Have your opinion on government policy heard. Help a friend through their time of need. Donate to a worthwhile cause. Find out just how rewarding God’s work can be.

CTK Community Outreach
In so many ways, we are all connected to Christ, just as we are all connected to each other.  Especially now and into 2011, our community needs us to be even more connected with them.  That is the goal of the new CTK Community Outreach team.  We help organize, promote and celebrate our congregation’s helping hands through activities, events and education to benefit our local, regional and global neighbors.

To build awareness of all of these great efforts, you will begin to see this logo attached to announcements and stories about the many opportunities that CTK members have to stay connected with our community.

Our 2011 Outreach Themes
While there are many of our neighbors in need, we are trying to maximize our impact by focusing on a just a few populations.  CTK members selected these five groups:

  • Local Hunger Relief
  • Local Poverty Relief
  • Assistance for Children
  • Assistance for the Elderly
  • Assistance for families of active miliary personnel

We need your help!  We get together every third Thursday of the month, so our next meeting is on July 21st at 7PM at church.  Please stop in to see what we’re up to!  If you have questions or great ideas in the meantime, please contact Dan Peterson at 262-367-8028 or drp2010@gmail.com.

U.S. Severe Spring Storms and Flooding

The Situation:

REUTERS/Marvin GentryThis Spring, severe weather and flooding has caused widespread destruction across the United States. Deadly tornadoes have caused severe destruction in many of the southern states, including Alabama and North Carolina. Elsewhere, large portions of the Midwest are facing a continued threat of unprecedented flooding throughout the spring and summer. As the change in seasons continues to bring warmer temperatures across the country, the threat for severe weather is likely to remain high.

ELCA Response:

The ELCA, through Lutheran Disaster Response, has issued several emergency grants to affiliate organizations around the country. A $10,000 grant was given to Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota to support response efforts in the Red River Valley, which creates the natural border between Minnesota and North Dakota. L will play a key leadership in the unfolding response on both sides of the river. A $10,000 grant was also given to Lutheran Services in Tennessee to support the efforts of volunteers throughout the Southeastern Synod (Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee). Additional support for long-term recovery is planned also for Missouri, Illinois, and North Carolina. All of these grants will support and serve the long-term needs of individuals, families, and communities affected by these storms.
